   About Finca Río Negro

Sustainably Farmed

At the end of the nineties, the Fuentes family decided to establish the Rio Negro wineries, fulfilling their dream of elaborating one of the most distinct wines in the country on their own 600 hectare farm, reviving the tradition of wine growing in a town that had subsisted on this art for centuries.

The technical side is handled by enologist an investigator Juan Mariano Cabellos, who has been in charge of the project since its inception.

The land is located in Cogolludo, in the province of Guadalajara, in the foothills of the Sierra de Ayllón, next to the stone villages of the "Arquitectura Negra" (Black Architecture). It holds 42 hectares of vineyards situated 1000 meters above sea level, defying the traditional conventions of wine growing, and is surrounded by forests of oak, holm oak, pine and picturesque rolling hills.

The distance of this estate from any other Denominación de Origen (Designation of Origin), a "terroir" unique to this unusual altitude, together with the most advanced technologies and an obsession with achieving only the highest quality both in the vineyard and the winery, result in exceptional wines with unique organoleptic characteristics.

These wines are characterized by their intense color and deep, complex bouquet. The taste is bold, with a silkiness that is marked by the wine's depth. They are robust, fleshy and have a pleasant lingering aftertaste.
