Pinino
Sustainably farmed
Pinino, now part of the Il Borro family, continues its legacy of crafting exceptional Brunello di Montalcino wines with precision, patience, and profound respect for terroir. Nestled on the northern slopes of Montalcino, the estate’s vineyards benefit from ideal elevation, excellent sun exposure, and well-draining soils, producing Sangiovese grapes of remarkable purity and character.
Each bottle reflects a balance of tradition and innovation. Sustainable viticulture and careful aging—often in large Slavonian oak casks—yield wines that are structured, refined, and unmistakably expressive of Montalcino’s unique landscape. The Brunello, Riserva, and Rosso di Montalcino offerings from Pinino showcase the estate’s commitment to quality, depth, and age-worthiness.
Now under the guidance of the Ferragamo family’s Il Borro estate, Pinino stands as a seamless extension of Il Borro’s philosophy: honoring heritage while embracing excellence.
Il Borro’s vines grow on the Valdarno hills at the foot of the Pratomagno Mountains, within a microclimate of mild winters, a perfect place for vineyards. A great lake covered the entire valley during the Pliocene epoch leaving an enduring legacy in the chemical composition of the soil, ideal for making fine wine. The bedrock is sandstone, above a base of a loam rich soil on a sandy clay matrix. A poor soil but ideal for the needs of the vine.
Ferruccio Ferragamo to initiate a winemaking revival at Il Borro in 1995. Careful analysis guided every decision, from the choice of grape to the clones and rootstocks, nothing was left to chance. Grape varieties, such as Sangiovese, and those of the “Tuscan tradition,” such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grow side by side adapting perfectly to the variability of the soil. Eighty-five hectares are under vine, 300 to 500 metres above sea level, divided between five varieties of grapes to extract the very best wines from our precious terroir.
