          About FRANCESC RICART

Sustainably Farmed

Francesc Ricart is a distinguished winery located in the heart of Penedès, one of Spain’s most renowned wine regions, celebrated for its exceptional sparkling wines, particularly Cava. Nestled in Catalonia, just southwest of Barcelona, the Penedès region offers a unique blend of Mediterranean influence, diverse soils, and varied altitudes that together create ideal conditions for high-quality viticulture.

Geography and Climate

The Francesc Ricart winery draws from vineyards situated across the Alt Penedès, the highest and most mountainous subzone of the region. Here, cooler temperatures and significant diurnal shifts help preserve acidity in the grapes, crucial for crafting fresh, balanced Cavas. The Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot summers, mild winters, and moderate rainfall, fosters healthy grape development while limiting the risk of disease.

The diverse terrain—ranging from coastal plains to inland hills—encompasses soils of limestone, clay, and sand, each contributing distinct mineral and structural nuances to the wines. This varied topography allows for strategic vineyard placement according to grape variety, optimizing expression and typicity.

Francesc Ricart specializes in traditional-method sparkling wines (Cava DO), rooted in the classic local varietals: Macabeo, Xarel·lo, and Parellada. These indigenous grapes are the backbone of Cava, offering a harmonious blend of fruit, structure, and finesse. The winery also integrates modern techniques with time-honored practices, maintaining secondary fermentation in the bottle and extended lees aging for added complexity and texture.

The result is a lineup of elegant, expressive Cavas—noted for their fine bubbles, crisp acidity, and layered aromas of citrus, green apple, and brioche. Whether Brut, Rosé, or Reserva, Francesc Ricart wines reflect the terroir of Penedès with authenticity and refinement.
